Netflix’s Q3 2023 numbers were better than expected, with quarterly revenue up by 7.8% year on year to reach $8.5 billion, and operating margin now up to an impressive 22.4%. The company attributed its revenue growth to three areas: firstly, an increase in average paid memberships, which is due to the paid sharing rollout in June (where it prompted password sharers to subscribe to retain access); secondly, a strong content line up and thirdly, a strong global expansion in streaming subscriptions.

On June 30th, Netflix will launch its first ever pop-up restaurant, NETFLIX BITES ,at the Short Stories Hotel in Los Angeles. Featuring sampling menus from its celebrity chefs from Netflix original shows, such as Chef’s Table (surprisingly enough, Netflix’s longest running nonfiction series), Is It Cake?, and Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, the restaurant promises to offer in real life (IRL) fandom experiences for the shows’ fans who are able to visit in person.

With a saturated domestic market (32% of paid members in Q1 2023 were from North America), finding additional subscribers means pushing subscription dodgers onto the recently launched basic with ads tier (note that this equates to the monthly subscription cost of Disney+ when it launched as an ad-free service in 2019).

Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon have announced that HBO Max will become available on Prime Video channels in the US, with users able to subscribe through the Amazon platform. HBO Max was previously withdrawn from Amazon Channels in 2021 due to a dispute over data sharing (Amazon Channels provides less user data than an equivalent Fire TV app would do for Warner Bros.
