As I write this, the UK is in the midst of a potential constitutional crisis following the UK government’s proposed changes to political norms in order to push through Brexit. In some ways this is what you get when a country only has a part-written constitution and never quite got round to phasing out archaic tools such as proroguing parliament (a monarchical prerogative that was used by medieval Plantagenet kings such as Edward I and Edward II in the 13thand 14thcenturies).

Facebook’s ‘Disputed News’ Shows Intent But Does Not Solve The Fake News Problem

Last week Facebook started to roll out a feature which allows users to flag content as ‘disputed’, in a bid to mitigate the circulation of fake news on the site. Stories flagged by users will then be passed onto Facebook’s partner fact-checking organizations, which are signatories to the Poynter’s international fact-checking code of principles.

In delivering the announcement, Williams pertinently wrote: ‘Upon further reflection, it is clear that the broken system is ad-driven media on the Internet.
