The 20,000 Foot View: 2016 was the turnaround year for the global recorded music business. The prevailing sentiment among battle-scarred label executives was one of cautious optimism. The first quarter results for 2017 suggest they might be able to afford themselves a little less confidence and a little more optimism. Combined major revenues were billion, up from 2016. Streaming was the driving factor in 2016 and it was once again in 2017, registering billion, up year-on-year.
