Global subscriber growth is maturing while incomes are becoming constrained and alternatives to streaming TV are proliferating. For the first time in the history of subscription video on demand (SVOD), churn is accelerating and becoming a systemic issue now that streaming is supplanting traditional pay TV. MIDiA has created a churn model based on our global video subscriptions 2024-2031 forecast data to help size the potential impact of churn on the streaming TV ecosystem. This report looks at two scenarios: the first with a base case churn rate of 10% and the second with a bear case of 40% churn between 2024 and 2031.
Key data and insights included in this report:
- How subscription video user churn is changing as streaming TV matures
- The effect of different churn rates on user metrics such as gross SVOD user accounts, average subscriber months, and revenue per user
- Analysis of how global and regional SVOD subscriber trends will be affected by churn
- Strategic recommendations for how streaming services can work against churn
