Microsoft ticks all the boxes for an in-game video platform
Microsoft is in a strong position to leverage this opportunity. Its now shutdown Twitch competitor, Mixer, already has a strong technical foundation for video streaming. Microsoft could repurpose and adapt its underlying technology into an integrated in-game platform across its portfolio, including major titles like Call of Duty, now part of its suite following the Activision Blizzard acquisition. By reusing Mixer’s infrastructure, Microsoft could avoid the high costs and technical challenges of building a new platform from scratch, potentially gaining a competitive edge and first-mover advantage. It would allow Microsoft to experiment with video at a relatively low additional investment while positioning its games to benefit from an immersive content ecosystem. It also fits in with Xbox’s cross-platform and cloud-based ambitions.
